Our story began when we were in high school and Andrey had arrived from Ukraine only a few years earlier. He didn’t speak much English; but quickly learned. We fell in love as we talked about the kind of future that we each wanted for ourselves. We married soon after graduation and looked forward to starting a family, but that wasn’t to be.
